Step 4. Deploy a silent install of Win 8.1 - Monthly Rollup May 2017 to multiple machines

  1. Download and install PDQ Deploy
  2. Enter License Key information
  3. Import the Win 8.1 – Monthly Rollup May 2017 package into PDQ Deploy
  4. Right-mouse click on the imported package > Deploy Once
  5. Choose Targets from Active Directory, PDQ Inventory, Target List, etc.
  6. Click Deploy Now

About Win 8.1 – Monthly Rollup

Installs the May 2017 Monthly Quality Rollup Update.

Stops the Windows Update service.

Changes the service startup type to manual if disabled.

Reverts the service type back to it’s orginal state after deployment.

Requires PowerShell 2.0 or higher.

This package may take hours to install. The Timeout has been set for 4 hours.

Microsoft lists the following as Prerequisites but are not included in this package:

KB2919355, KB2932046, KB2959977, KB2937592, KB2938439, and KB2934018.

Common Issues:

Installation may hang or timeout if-

Windows Updates are already in progress.

A reboot is required but will not be initiated by this deployment.

Known Issues:

If the PC uses an AMD Carrizo DDR4 processor, installing this update will block downloading and installing future Windows updates.
