Build Types

In addition to our major releases, we also provide nightly and beta builds. Below is a description of the build types. With the installation of each build, a database backup is created in case you need to roll back to a previous build.

If you would like to receive email notifications for beta or release builds sign up here.

Nightly builds

Primarily contains bug fixes, but also new features depending on where we are in the release cycle.

These builds receive limited testing and can potentially contain bugs. As such, we do not recommend installing in a production environment, unless by the direction of PDQ.com support staff.

Beta builds

Contains bug fixes and new features for the next major release.

These builds are tested more rigorously than nightly builds, however, can still potentially contain bugs. We generally do not recommend installing in a production environment.

To only be notified of beta builds within the product, navigate to Options > Preferences (or Ctrl+,) click Alerts and select Beta Channel.

Release builds

Release builds are our most rigorously tested and contain new features and bug fixes.

To only be notified of release builds within the product, navigate to Options > Preferences (or Ctrl+,) click Alerts and select Release Channel.

Database backups when installing

When a new build of any type is installed and changes are made to your database, a backup database is created. If for any reason, a new version corrupts or loses some data in the database, the backup will be available to be restored. Restoring a database may require some assistance from our Solutions team depending on the nature of the issue. For assistance, contact [email protected]

Rollback to a previous build

It is possible to roll back to a prior version of either product. To do so, uninstall the most recent build first before installing the older version to ensure all files from the newest install are removed. However, please be aware your database will not be compatible with the previous build so an older backup of the database will be used. If you experience any issues rolling back, please contact [email protected] immediately for assistance.
